Luxury holidays in Cancún

The Yucatán Peninsula’s main hub, Cancún knows how to draw a crowd. Its ferry, rail and road connections to some of Mexico’s most-loved spots — Chichen Itzá, Isla Mujeres, Tulum — make it a likely port of call. However, thanks to a growing wellness community and evolving frills beyond its nightlife, Cancún is slowly becoming a place to linger.

When to go

Dry December to April offers ideal weather, but overlaps with student-heavy spring break; visit between late April and June for fewer crowds. May to October coincides with hurricane and sargassum seaweed seasons.

Getting there

  • Planes

Cancun International Airport is a 30-minute drive from the city centre or its ferry terminal.
  • Trains

The Tren Maya rail route links most of the Yucatán Peninsula and its pueblos mágicos. Trains depart from Cancún’s airport to Tulum, Mérida and Bacalar.
