Luxury holidays in Izmir Province

Extending out into the lulling Aegean waters, Turkey’s İzmir Province is home to summer hot-spot Alaçatı, best known for its teal-toned shutters, bougainvillaea and genteel cafés. Absorb the bustling atmosphere and rich culture of İzmir’s city centre, or venture 50 miles west along the vineyard-coated coast to the Ephesus ruins and the bleached bays that hug resort town Çeşme’s westernmost point. And, wine lovers will feel right at home with a visit to ‘Turkey’s Tuscany’ Urla, where you can sip on an organic merlot and watch the fading sun set over its dreamy rolling hills.

When to go

Visit İzmir between May and August for pleasant temperatures and a summer sea breeze; if you’re hoping for a little more serenity then it may be best to avoid visiting in July and August.

Getting there

  • Planes

Fly direct to İzmir’s Adnan Menderes Airport before hopping in a taxi to the city. For those venturing further afield, pick up a rental and drive down the coast for around an hour to hit İzmir’s quieter seaside towns.
  • Automobiles

Depending on your patience, it may be best to avoid driving in İzmir’s city centre; but if you’re hoping to road trip down the coast then renting a car is your best bet.
