Luxury holidays in Merano

At South Tyrol’s sun-warmed heart, Merano — or Meran in German — is a picturesque spa town with palm-studded promenades and art nouveau flourishes. The Gothic church of St Nicholas watches over the Old Town, where Via Portici’s arcades tote boutiques, bakeries and cafés serving strudel. Beyond the mediaeval centre, the Kurhaus and Merano Terme Spa anchor the art-nouveau district, and the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle bring a touch of the Mediterranean to the mountains.
