Luxury holidays in Corn Islands

Lulling in the southwest Caribbean Sea, off the coast of Nicaragua, the Corn Islands are a castaway’s beach-blessed idyll. We would say time stands still, but the truth is, it simply ceases to matter. Reef dives, mangrove tours and turtle-tracking are the activities most likely to lure you from your sunlounger — but this is foremost a place where hours are tracked by your tally of rum punches, balmy ocean dips and Caribbean sunsets.

When to go

Temperatures remain steady year-round; October and November see the most rain showers, March to May are the driest months, and September stands out with clear skies and calm seas.

Getting there

  • Planes

Managua on the Nicaraguan mainland is the nearest international airport: from here, you’ll need a domestic connection to Big Corn Island and onward transfers by boat for Little Corn Island.
  • Automobiles

On Big Corn Island, car rentals are rare, and Little Corn is blissfully car-free, making taxis (on Big Corn only), bicycles, and walking the go-to modes of transport.
