Luxury holidays in Grand Baie

With sheltered coves and bays to explore, dive missions to spy hammerhead sharks and richly hued waters ripe for waterskiing, windsurfing and such, Grand Baie isn’t short on adventure. However, it’s main draw is its brochure-best beaches, whether private and tucked away in luxurious resorts or spots such as La Cuvette, Grand Baie and Pereybere, where you’ll sunbathe alongside the locals. A constellation of tiny islands (Gunners' Quoin, Flat Island, Serpent Island and such) make for picturesque boat hopping and fruitful fishing expeditions. And, in the village, you can collect colourful sarongs, scarves and bags in the bazaar, then pause for fruity cocktails in the shade of thatched palapas at one of the many buzzing bars.

Getting there

  • Planes

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is an hour’s drive from Grand Baie. Daily flights from international hubs such as London, Singapore, Paris and Dubai touchdown here frequently.
  • Automobiles

You may wish to explore the lush hinterland or check out the beach scene along the coast, and driving is relatively stress-free on the island so some wheels may come in handy. Just remember to keep to the left-hand side.
