When to go

Golden Circle’s glaciers and geysers impress year-round – spring and summer are mild but popular with visitors; winter is quieter and just as spectacular, with frozen waterfalls and snow-topped terrain.

Getting there

  • Planes

Fly into Reykjavik’s international airport; from here, it’s an hour’s drive to Selfoss or Thingvellir National Park; Gullfoss, the Golden Circle’s furthest corner, is two hours away by car.
  • Automobiles

For the always adventurous, hire your own four-wheel drive to navigate the Golden Circle at your preferred pace. The route is an easy day trip from Reykjavik – or opt for a chauffeured Jeep tour to take you out of the driving seat.
