  Burlington International Airport lies a few miles to the east of the city, roughly 15 minutes’ drive from downtown, which is this Vermont city’s beating heart.

• Trains

  If for you it’s as much about the journey as it is the destination, settle in on Amtrak’s Ethan Allen Express, which runs from New York City, via Hudson and Albany, to Burlington station, a few minutes’ walk from downtown.

• Automobiles

  There's an active streak to the city, with its lakeside bike trail and walkable downtown, but wheels come in handy for mountain forays and interstate road trips.
