Need to know   All wedding ceremonies in Indonesia must have religious content, and both bride and groom must have been baptised before the ceremony; Puri Mas staff can conduct baptisms if required. Several vehicles are available form transporting bride and/or groom around, including pre-war jeeps that can be decorated as you desire, a sedan chair, and a traditional cipdomo horse and cart. The hotel can arrange Indonesian bands or an Arabic Gambus troupe and can tailor your wedding’s décor and theme however you may wish. Despite the efforts of the ‘rain man’ who dances to induce fortuitous weather, it’s best to stay out of the November–March rainy season, although a marquee can always be constructed.

Inspiration   The two sites – beach resort and valley village – allow the bride and groom’s party to prepare separately. The bride and her attendants can relax and enjoy the facilities at the spa village before the ceremony, while the groom readies himself at the beach resort.

Brown's Hotel

Need to know   A private wedding coordinator is assigned to all couples getting married in the hotel, and Brown’s ensures that no two ceremonies will take place on the same day within its walls, meaning that its staff will lavish their attention on you and you alone. There are three private-event rooms to choose from for the wedding banquet and the chef meets with all couples before the big day to ensure the menu is as mouth-watering as can be.

Bingham

Wow factor   Gorgeous location on the River Thames, on the leafy Surrey fringe of London. Many happy couples make a splash by going away by boat.

Need to know   If you want a Saturday wedding, the minimum number of guests is 50. The maximum number of guests for a sit-down meal is 100, and 150 for a drinks reception. Exclusive hire of the hotel is possible.

Inspiration   The Bingham holds an average of 80 weddings a year, and provides a dedicated wedding co-ordinator who can arrange every detail, from invitations to entertainment.

Blakes

Wow factor   The Corfu Suite, Anouska Hempel's original white-on-white room, is the perfect place to start your honeymoon.

Need to know   Couples wishing to get married at Blakes must inform the Register Office of the date and time of their ceremony. Ceremonies are held in Suite 007 which can accommodate 36 people. The hotel can arrange lunch or dinner in the restaurant for up to 80 guests, or canapés for 100 guests. Of the hotel's 46 rooms, a maximum of ten may be booked by a wedding party. The hotel can arrange spectacular floral displays, and Anouska Hempel Couture can create your dream wedding dress.

Inspiration   Suite 007 is spectacularly decorated in shades of raspberry and ivory. The Blakes team can create any kind of decorative scheme, from romantic chic to sleek glamour, using petals, candles, flowers and decorations.

The Gore

Wow factor   The richly decorated Tapestry room has panelled walls hung with beautiful gilded mirrors and French verdure tapestries.

Need to know   Wedding ceremonies are conducted in the sumptuous Tapestry room, and receptions are held in a separate private dining space; the hotel can arrange all catering and flowers. Honeymooners usually stay in either the Tudor or Venus room.

Inspiration   The Gore team has organised many weddings, and is prepared to tailor the event to make your day special; according to them, ‘The impossible is just something that has never been done before.’

The Metropolitan London

Wow factor   The ultimate in sophisticated urban venues. Book the Penthouse suite for panoramic views of Hyde Park, and see how many celebrities you can spot in the members-only Met Bar and Michelin-starred Nobu restaurant. The Como Shambhala Urban Escape offers Asian-inspired treatments to calm pre-wedding nerves.

Need to know   They're mentioning no names, but one couple hired Nobu, the Met Bar and The Penthouse on an exclusive basis for their nuptials, which the hotel billed, 'the Ultimate Wedding Reception in London'. A Met Bar mixologist can be booked for cocktail drinks receptions.

Inspiration   The events manager and team of planners (020 7447 1064) oversees every aspect of the big day. Her comprehensive contacts book has lists of florists, photographers and transport providers for the couple to choose from. The look that works best here is pared down and minimalist, decorated with subtle floral arrangements.

Cocoa Island

Wow factor   Everything here has the wow factor: the scenery, the weather, the views… you shouldn't have too much trouble having the time of your lives. Best of all, you don't even have to travel anywhere post-wedding for your honeymoon; you can just roll into your private villa and never leave again…

Need to know   For the best weather, book your wedding between December and April – although there's a considerably lower chance of your wedding being rained off in the Maldives than in the UK. Cocoa Island can help you with all the arrangements, from flowers and photography to pre-nuptial pampering. Weddings here are purely ceremonial and not recognised by Maldivian law, so you'll need to sort out an official ceremony back home.

Inspiration   After your ceremony, go for a dolphin-watching sunset cruise while your guests drink champagne before a super seafood feast at Ufaa.
