Need to know   Weddings can be held any day of the week. If you want a Saturday wedding, you'll need a minimum of 50 guests.

Inspiration   Lisa Marshall, the dedicated events manager, makes sure the big day runs smoothly. She has a huge contacts book and is happy to advise on all the extras, from the flowers to the going-away transport. The food is the main event here, and guests often request a wine-tasting menu. Scottish-themed menus (traditional haddock chowder, venison) are also popular.

Hospes Palacio de los Patos

Granada, Spain

Wow factor   The Palacio de los Patos’ grand central staircase offers a to-die-for photo backdrop.

Need to know   Senzone restaurant can accommodate a reception of up to 60 people, but, weather permitting, a cocktail party of up to 150 can be held in a marquee in the hotel gardens. The hotel can assist with all arrangements, including food, photography and entertainment, and will liaise with the town hall to organise legal aspects.

Inspiration   The hotel is the ideal jumping off point for a honeymoon skiing or hiking in the Sierra Nevadas, less than an hour’s drive away.

Laluna

Grenada, Caribbean

Wow factor   An intimate hideaway in a secluded bay setting, Laluna is ideal for wedding ‘escapes’ with a select number of guests – as a number of musicians, models and movie stars can testify.

Need to know   Couples marrying in Grenada are required to stay on the island for three working days prior to the event, and must have birth certificates, and a notarised letter confirming singledom. Laluna requires at least eight of its cottages to be booked to host a wedding reception, but recommends exclusive use – the resort can accommodate 32 people.

Inspiration   Laluna’s staff can tailor-make any aspect of your wedding, including flowers, cake and photography. It would also be churlish not to treat the bridesmaids to a spa treatment the day before.

Chewton Glen 

Hampshire, United Kingdom

Wow factor   Gorgeous country house and idyllic grounds are a winning combination for a quintessentially English wedding. The world-class spa soothes any last-minute nerves.

Need to know   All-inclusive wedding packages are available for a minimum of 40 guests, and include a drinks reception, three-course meal, a cake, floral arrangements, a string quartet, and the services of a toastmaster. Look for special offers, such as the Winter Wedding Package, which includes a complimentary honeymoon suite for the wedding night.

Inspiration   With over 40 years hosting weddings and receptions, Chewton Glen has organising a seamless big day down to a fine art. The wedding coordinator Bettina Eickhoff (01425 282278) is in charge of all arrangements, whether you opt for a wedding package, or something completely bespoke. Bettina can arrange all the details, including photography, going-away transport, wedding invitations and favours.

Six Senses Hideaway Hua Hin

Wow factor   There can be few better ways to begin your wedding night than sipping champagne in a Jacuzzi, surrounded by lush tropical gardens and serene lotus ponds.

Need to know   Evason Hideaway offers three wedding packages, priced between THB44,000 and THB100,000, all of which include a bridal bouquet, tree-planting ceremony, candlelit dinner and one night in a pool villa. It’s best to book your nuptials between November and February as the weather’s at its best during this period.

Inspiration   Take your guests on a sunset cruise of the Hua Hin coast, or get them all elephant-riding through the forests.

Atzaró

Ibiza, Balearic Islands, Spain

Wow factor   The 250-square-metre colonial pavilion, decorated with hand-carved panels and set in lush gardens, is the ideal venue for the ceremony.

Need to know   Stars of screen, sport and catwalk have been married here. 230 guests can be accommodated in spring and autumn; in summer, larger wedding parties can be catered for on the outdoor terraces. The wedding couple stay as guests of the hotel and there are special rates for friends and family. Pre-wedding beauty and relaxation packages are available in the fabulous spa to soothe those pre-nup jitters.

Inspiration   Atzaró can arrange private plane flights around the island, or a luxury motor cruiser to take you for a champagne picnic at a secluded spot on the Ibiza or Formentera coastlines.
