The Guestbook

Mrs Smith and I booked ourselves a few days away to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and the Scarlet was tremendous. A unique and stylish hotel in a beautiful natural setting. While driving towards Newquay we spotted a sign for Fifteen; we had no idea it was there, just four or five miles from the Scarlet. A quick google search and a phone call secured us the final table with a tasting menu for the following evening – we'd suggest you book in advance. The food, drink and staff were all great. They were more than accommodating for Mrs Smith's tastes, being a pregnant vegetarian. Also advertised on the Fifteen website was a 10k race at Newquay Airport, in aid of the Cornish Air Ambulance that Sunday. We duly donated our entry fees to the good cause and took part. Mr Smith was obviously well fuelled by Fifteen, coming 8th in the race.

I didn't think I would like it but we had a seaweed hot tub in one of the two hot tubs they have overlooking the beach and sea as the sun set. It was great fun – give it a go.

What an amazing place. We can't rate the Scarlet highly enough. Their customer service is out of this world – we are in this field ourselves, so always have this high on our priorities – and the food, well,  I'm a vegetarian, and the options are vast. They really go out of their way to give you exactly what you want, whether it's on the menu or just something you randomly request. The view from our room was delightful – the perfect place to start our honeymoon. You MUST go. Also a visit to Boscastle Tintagel and Port Issac are a must, beautiful Cornish towns, and of course Padstow and Wadebridge which has some fabulous little shops that you'll want to investigate. Overall truly wonderful.

Truly fantastic. My wife and I spent a couple of nights here as part of our honeymoon and would thoroughly recommend this idyllic eco-hotel. Each bedroom has a wonderful view of the ocean. We could have spent hours just watching the changing weather and light on the sea, beautiful bay and headland from the comfort of our room, but the hotel had too many facilities to experience and explore. The highlight of our trip was an hour-long session in the outdoor woodfired hot tubs. Sipping mulled cider looking at the same timeless view was truly memorable, as were all the meals in the hotel's restaurant. The menu changes everyday and too often the number of gastronomic delights featuring locally sourced products made it hard to choose. Every dish was delicious. All the staff were extremely friendly and attentive thorough our stay and nothing was too much trouble. After all this luxury and a wonderful treatment in the Ayurvedic spa when it came to the end of our stay, it was extremely hard to leave. We will definitely be back to explore the area with all its headlands coves and beaches. Not even the unpredictable weather could put us off returning. With no mobile phone signal and all this pampering, the hotel provides a true to haven to unwind in and relax.

Loved the cliff walks in either direction towards Padstow or to Watergate Bay. Lots of opportunities to watch surfers, while you scale the cliffs down to secluded beaches. Once we were at Watergate Bay we had a super yummy, hearty lunch at The Beach Hut Cafe and afterwards they organised a cab back for us. I can highly recommend the pulled pork sandwich, which is perfect after a long walk on a crisp day. At the Scarlet it was the little things that I loved, like being able to call for tea or coffee anytime, anywhere, and the fact it was a great cuppa too, made by the in-house baristas. The hot tub when sun is setting is a great time in mid-November, the slot from 3-4pm was great. And a real bonus, we got ours complimentary with Mr & Mrs Smith deal. I was six months pregnant and all the facilites were great, with lots of walking, lots of relaxing, plenty on the menu and although I couldn't join hubby in hot tub that was all that I missed out on. There was a wedding on the Saturday and it looked like they had a great time, it was very intimate. All in all, just what we wanted; a luxurious, relaxing break, with plenty to do at the hotel and plenty to discover along the coast. Thanks.

A jewel in a wonderful county. A perfect retreat for those special occasions, or in my case, a great place to relax after business. With wonderful fare and facilities to die for, the Scarlet is an ecofriendly and child-free Babington House.

We had an amazing time at The Scarlet, it really is a place to unwind and give yourselves up to relaxation. One thing I would really recommend, apart from the obligatory hot tub and champagne experience, is booking a Rhassoul treatment. Locking your private steam room and slathering each other in mud feels decadently naughty in the best possible way.

The Scarlet is an uncannily cool hotel with its minimal design and eco handle. The outside natural pool is a must (make sure you dive off the rock into the deep blue), and be sure to bag one of the two hot tubs on the cliffs overlooking Mawgan Porth to watch the sun go down with a tipple of your choice. This hotel is overdrawn in the bank of cool. Take a look at the aerial view of the hotel on Google Maps to see why.

A great place to switch off. If you book a spa journey here, keep the following day restful too. It will take at least 24 hours to get back to doing anything more than nothing.

One of the many highlights of the stay at the Scarlet was booking in with the cute hotel dog, Jasper. He has his own diary and you can book him out and take him for a walk. Not sure who loved it more, him or us!
