The Guestbook

Funky, fun and very well-situated. A quieter church clock would have made for more sleep but it was very characterful. Good breakfasts, enough to last all day. Lovely riverside walks and close enough for a day at Hidcote House – beautiful gardens. And great theatre, of course. We'll be back.

The breakfast in the hotel was fab, especially the eggs Benedict. Would recommend a show at the Royal Shakespeare theatre. We saw The Merchant of Venice, which was excellent and received a standing ovation.

We were very much looking forward to our stay at the hotel after reading all about it on the Mr & Mrs Smith site, but it far exceeded our expectations. We were able to stay in the room I requested which was wonderful. The room was light and sumptuous at the same time. I was very impressed that I had hair straighteners too. Oh, and shortbread and a decanter of port. Oh, and extremely luxurious products in the bathroom. The staff were amazing too, so genuinely friendly and nothing was too much trouble for anyone. The bar has a great atmosphere with a live pianist playing our requests. We genuinely didn't feel the need to leave the hotel. All in all a wonderful stay. So much so that I'm going back for a girls' weekend in May. And I can't wait.

Beautiful rooms and public areas and genuinely friendly staff made for a lovely stay. The hotel is only a couple of minutes' walk from the RSC theatres which meant that we could happily eat a pre-theatre dinner at the hotel without worrying about making it to the show on time. We let our waitress know what time we needed to leave by to catch the show and all went very smoothly. If you're celebrating an occasion and have forgotten to buy a card, just 50m or so down the road from the hotel at 7 Chapel Street is a cute little shop called Daisy Chain – it got my husband out of a tight spot.

What a gem of a hotel. We stayed for 4 nights at the Church Street Townhouse. It was a truly delightful hotel. A great team runs the hotel with an informal but professional style. The room was good and my request for a quiet room and hypoallergenic bed linen had been dealt with and mentioned to me at check-in. The bistro restaurant served great quality and reasonably priced food. Good portion size at dinner and at breakfast. The bar is lively at night with music and a local client population mixing with guests. The locals all seemed to love the place, in fact one of them came up to me at dinner and told me so. I spend a lot of my time in hotels through my work and often they are a vast disappointment where reception staff are rude and the rooms dirty (and these are 5 star hotels) and the food mediocre. The Church Street Townhouse was the absolute opposite of my normal hotel experience. Even Mr Smith (and he really is called Mr Smith) enjoyed it. We will definitely return.

The Church Street Townhouse is everything that you would expect of a boutique hotel, with the added convenience of the perfect location. The staff clearly enjoy working there and it shows in the level of service and the enthusiasm. We stayed in Room 3, full of plush furnishings and one of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in. It features a roll top bath in a cleverly curtained off area separate to the WC and shower room. Diagonally across the road from the archeological dig that was Shakespeare's house, the hotel is in the heart of historic Stratford upon Avon. Although there are a number of good restaurants in Stratford, we chose to eat in the hotel restaurant. The food was delicious, and prepared and presented with great care. We bought the 5 house tickets entry to the 5 houses that connect the Shakespeare family, which are valid for 12 months, and the 24-hour hop on-hop off bus tour, which is more than enough time to get your bearings. Both the RSC theatre and the Swan theatre are an easy stroll from the hotel. We went to the RSC for a production of Midsummer Night's Dream and then back to the hotel for a cheeseboard that we took up to the room to enjoy with the complimentary port. We would have no reservations about recommending this lovely hotel to friends and strangers alike.

This was a perfect place to stay in Stratford, central to all amenities. The hotel and staff were what they should be; comfortable, helpful and welcoming. The food was excellent, imaginative and the menu flexible. We didn't feel the need to try elsewhere. I think they have got it all just right.

We stayed Friday and Saturday night here and we loved it. We stayed in Room 8, which was a little on the tight side, but faced towards the rear and was very quiet. It still had a super-king bed too. A great feature of the hotel was that breakfast was served until 11am, which meant we could lie in for longer. Food was also served until at least 10.30pm too, meaning our late arrival on Friday night was catered for. A visit to Shakespeare's church where he was married, his children were married and where he is buried was interesting after a gentle walk along the river. There are plenty of pubs to choose from too. The staff were exceptionally friendly too and made the stay very pleasurable. Would stay there again, maybe in Room 3 next time.

Perfect. So, so helpful staff, lovely touches like a small decanter of Port for a tipple after the meal. The restaurant was great as well. The overall decor was great and we both felt so at home the minute we checked in. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Room was fab, thanks for the upgrade breakfast, it was fab. Staff were fab, we had a great night at the Church Street Townhouse, especially as we also got to see the wonderful Patrick Stewart at the RSC. The port and biscuits in the room were a lovely touch, which we enjoyed after our trip to the theatre. We didn't have a chance to sample the food but the menu looked great.

Lovely boutique hotel. Love the decor, lots of huge mirrors. This place has a young and vibrant, yet very comfortable, feel about it. The staff were charming and attentive. We stayed two nights and dined in once, would have been happy to eat in a second night if not for a concert to go to. Steak was perfectly cooked and the apple steamed sponge and ice-cream was an absolute dream – if you like sticky toffee pudding you will love this, not quite as sweet and lighter. The full English breakfast was generous and beautifully cooked. Compliments to the chef all round. The bed was very big and very comfortable (room 10). The half bottle of champagne was a nice usual 'Smith' treat but the unexpected little decanter of port and home-made shortbread on the dresser was a lovely little unexpected bonus. Would recommend this and be happy to go back.

A must do is the Picturehouse cinema, what more could you ask for than an afternoon film and a glass of wine, bliss.
