Worth getting out of bed for
Once the curtain's fallen at the RSC theatre and you've wandered the world of William Shakespeare, Stratford is perfectly placed for exploring the Cotswolds and surrounding countryside.
If a day at the races gets your heart a-flutter, there are courses Stratford, Cheltenham and Warwick – also home to the spectacular 1,000-year-old Warwick Castle, complete with jousting, turrets and ghosts.
Local restaurants
Wander up Sheep Street and you'll find several of Stratford's most enticing eateries, including all-day bistro and wine bar The Vintner (01789 297259); Modern British brasserie Grants (01789 290008) and fine-dining restaurant Lambs (01789 292554).
Local bars
For post-theatre drinks, stars of stage and screen head to the Dirty Duck (aka Black Swan) overlooking the Avon (01789 297312), or the Arden members bar opposite the theatre. You'll often find cast and crew propping up Church Street Townhouse's pewter bar, too (we've already spotted Tim Minchin and Chuk Iwuji).
