The Guestbook
Our long weekend at the Boatshed coincided with one of the most stormy and windy weekends to buffet Auckland and Waiheke Island, but what did it matter we had found the perfect port in a storm! From the minute our host, Jonathon Scott, opened the front door, we felt welcome and at complete ease in our home away from home. Our Boatshed suites were delightfully appointed, with quality bathroom products and thoughtful additions for more beachy weather! Right down to the jelly beans on the coffee table, glowing fire, burning candles and soft music, our every comfort had been carefully catered for. We could have happily stayed ensconsed in our room – however a glass of wine together with a local cheese plate was enough enticement to get us out on the deck and then later around the big log fire in the lounge. We had already elected to 'dine in' that evening and what a fabulous epicurean delight that was! Jonathon and his small team made us feel so comfortable and relaxed, beginning with canapes in front of the fire, followed by dinner at an intimate nook in the main lounge, complemented by his well-advised wine selection. Breakfast was another culinary creation: beautifully prepared fresh fruit and cereals together with the chef's daily specials, cooked on demand and served without fuss. As the Moke's were out of action and the weather not too kind, our host had organised a hire car for us and we managed to circum-navigate most of the island over our two days, which also included such highlights as the local Saturday market, an auction and wine tasting at the local Art Society, and just a few drops at Cable Bay Vineyard. (Dinner at the restaurant on Saturday night was superb!) The service by Jonathon and the team could be described as perceptive and attentive, although always discreet. Jonathon has a knack of looking at you and sensing what you may need – a drink, a coffee, a walk – and offers his ideas to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
Come Monday morning we seemed to be just getting into the swing of Waiheke life but unfortunately children and work beckened for our return. We cant wait to plan our next visit to Waiheke and the Boatshed!
Don't go home without wandering through Jonathon's vegie/herb garden, definately have dinner at the Boatshed, and check the local architecture on your travels or walks!
