Temple Tree
Getting there
Temple Tree is 10 minutes' drive south of Langkawi International Airport, on the west coast of Pulau Langkawi, and just a few minutes' drive from the main beach at Pantai Cenang.
- Planes Fly into Langkawi International Airport, near Kuala Muda on the west coast, served year-round by Malaysia Airlines (www.malaysiaairlines.com) and AirAsia (www.airasia.com) direct flights from capital Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. In high season, several major international carriers run direct long-haul flights to the island. A taxi from the airport to Temple Tree hotel costs around RM18–RM25.
- Trains There are no trains on Langkawi island, but you can take the train from Kuala Lumpur to Alor Setar or Arau on the Malaysian mainland; from there, it's just a short taxi or bus ride to pick up an express ferry connection from either Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis respectively, for connections on to Langkawi. Trains are operated by KTM Berhad (KTMB; www.ktmb.com.my).
- Automobiles Langkawi is a big island but also a relatively easy one to navigate; rental cars offer the best way to explore. Make savings by asking your concierge to recommend a car from an outside agency, or pick one up yourself at Kuah ferry jetty or the airport. Drive carefully at night, however; Malay villagers, motorbikes and livestock have a cavalier approach to road safety. Parking at the hotel is free.
- Others Ferries run between Kuala Perlis or Kuala Kedah on the Malaysian mainland and Kuah town on Langkawi, taking an hour and an hour and a half respectively (www.langkawi-ferry.com). You can also catch a ferry to Langkawi from Georgetown on Penang (two and a half hours) or Satun on the southern Thai coast (one hour).
