Pastis on Ninth Avenue (+1 212 929 4844) is as fashionable as ever and great for brunch, serving French bistro dishes with perfect pommes frites. Spice Market, on 13th Street between Ninth Avenue and Washington Street (+1 212 675 2322), serves South East Asian cuisine in vast, and palatial surroundings. There are private cushion-filled booths at the back, and a great upstairs bar. Carlos A Suarez’s resurrection of this 100-year-old brownstone to create the cosy Bobo (+1 212 488 2626; bobonyc.com) was a stroke of genius. It feels more like a private supper scenario, with delicious fresh, seasonal farm-to-table fare from Patrick Connolly. To experience the standout dishes, choose the ‘dinner party’ option from the menu.
