Getting there
- Planes The nearest airport is Olbia Costa Smeralda, an hour from the hotel by car. From the UK, Jet2 (www.jet2.com) flies seasonally from Edinburgh, Leeds and Manchester, as does Thomas Cook (www.thomascookairlines.co.uk) from London Gatwick. Turmo Travel (www.turmotravel.it) runs buses from the airport to nearby Santa Maria di Galluro, which is a 20-minute taxi ride from the hotel.
- Trains The closest train station is Palau, a 20-minute drive away. Trains tend to run on time but are often less convenient than buses in terms of timetables and destinations. However, there is a tourist train known as the Little Green Train (www.treninoverde.com) which operates June–September between Nulvi, Tempio and Palau, and runs through some of Sardinia’s most scenic and otherwise unreachable areas. - Automobiles La Coluccia is located along the SS133bis, between Santa Teresa di Gallura and Ponte Liscia. Several nearby towns are of interest, including Santa Teresa di Gallura and Palau (both 20 minutes away), small unspoilt seaside resorts. From the former, you can see Corsica across the Stretto di Bonifacio. Sassari, Sardinia’s second-largest city, is a two-hour drive, and Cagliari is four and a half hours away. There are Avis and Europcar desks at the airport, and parking once you arrive at the hotel.
- Others La Coluccia is 20 minutes by car from two ports. From Santa Maria di Gallura Bonifacio, Corsica can easily be reached. From Palau, ferries go to Porto Vecchio, Corsica, Genoa, Naples and La Maddalena island.
