The Guestbook

Just come back from 5 lovely days at La Coluccia. As we had booked through Mr & Mrs Smith, they gave us one of the best full sea view rooms. The staff were very helpful and the food delicious, although you need to be aware it is a taster menu and not a la carte in the restaurant at night. We would highly recommend this hotel to someone wanting a relaxing time, there isn't much to do around the hotel, but if you just want to chill, perfect.

For a real treat take the ferry (from Santa Teresa Gallura) to Bonifacio

If staying at La Coluccia, hire a boat from Giovanni on the beach (the hotel staff can sort this for you). It's well worth touring the Islands and taking a picnic so you can choose your spot for a swim and have lunch on hand. The best spots on many of the islands don't have have food and beverage. It's also worth while buying an Ordanance Survey of the Costa Smeralda region so you know exactly where you are, as at sea it can be a little confusing with the smaller scale map provided by Giovanni.

The basic rooms were a bit disappointing, as we had bad weather for the first day and a half. However, the restaurant and staff were superb, every night was a treat! The highlight was lunch – lobster linguine and hiring the speed boat for half a day to go exploring, great fun. Frustrating that the wireless connection (which you had to pay for) was only available in the lobby and by the pool. A very relaxing place.

This is an excellent hotel. It is a simple, no fuss, no pretention, honest-to-goodness, reasonably priced, upmarket place to stay in a wonderfully peaceful, beautiful location. The staff are professionals, without all the airs and graces that they could choose to adopt. The food is superb and so is the wine. The staff are so helpful, that one of the waiters wrote out a long detailed list of his favourite local wines for me, which must have taken him all night! As most of the wines are unknown outside Sardinia, the list is very useful.

There are a few points to note:

1) If you stay at the back of the Hotel, rooms 30 onwards, and the wind blows the wrong way, there is the most dreadful pong, which I think comes from nearby sewers – outside the control of the Hotel.
2) They serve re-constituted orange juice for breakfast! Why, on an island up to it’s neck in fresh oranges do they do this?

These points taken into consideration, I still give it my highest marks. When I consider the all rip-off hotels I have stayed in during my years of travelling, it’s a real treat to find one which is very good. In an ideal world it would be nice if the owners and management of some of these dreadful hotels (particularly most of those in the UK) could stay at La Coluccia for a few days and learn how it’s done.

Mr & Mrs Smith (We really are!)

We had the most wonderful stay in Sardinia and for five nights found no need to go out of the resort. My only gripe would be the lack of drinking water; in that heat, buying bottled from the bar soon added up. However there is a little cafe-bar just off the beach at the end of the hotel garden with a 1.5 ltr bottle for just 2Euro. The special dinner for Mr & Mrs Smith cardholders was just lovely though – we felt really special.

Fantastic hotel with outstanding food. After the long, winding but scenic drive, we did not anticipate finding such a gem in the middle of nowhere. Hiring a boat to go and explore the nearby islands is definitely worthwhile. We can't wait to go back!

We decided to venture into St. Theresa one day and spent €50 on a taxi there and back. The town wasn't that exciting – we did find a decent café where we could eat outside but we just didn't feel it was worth leaving the hotel for. La Coluccia catered to all of our needs and the setting was so lovely there was no reason to leave, unless you needed cigarettes which you would have to venture into St. Theresa for, as the hotel doesn't sell them!
