International House Hotel 221 Camp Street New Orleans 70130 Louisiana US

International House Hotel

New Orleans, United States

Reviewed by Mr & Mrs Smith.

Mr & Mrs Smith have just returned from a stay at this Louisiana boutique hotel, and as soon as they've unpacked their Mardi Gras beads and Creole cookbooks, a full account of their US luxury city break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick snapshot of International House Hotel in New Orleans…

A designer’s urbane getaway, International House Hotel is forward-thinking with its high-tech Apple TV updates and lavish in its design, yet tempered with harmonious neutrals and clean-lined luxe.

The high-ceilinged, colonnaded lobby is grand, but approachable, with quirky Nola-style details: an artful altar paying homage to holy days – both Catholic and voodoo, naturally – is on display all year round. Couches and chairs are outfitted for the seasons: covered in an all-white affair for summer and deep ruby-red for winter.

The tiniest hint of whimsical burlesque can be found in the rooms in the form of chandelier-lit bathrooms and rich damasks. LM Pagano, LA-based designer-to-the-stars – whose client list includes Johnny Depp and Nicholas Cage – is behind the two penthouses. These hardwood-floored beauties are kitted out with bespoke headboards, spa-like marble-bedecked bathrooms with cube tubs and twinkling chandeliers. The Big Easy really shows-off in the intoxicating views from the private terrace. After one night, don’t be surprised if you find yourself flipping to the real estate section of The Times-Picayune over coffee.
