The Guestbook

Great hotel, wonderful location. 5 minutes from El Rincillo.

A good hotel, well placed only a few minutes walk to the centre and with plenty of bars and restaurants located nearby. The restaurant was great: good food and good service. The staff were extremely helpful, booking taxis, making restaurant reservations and loaning us a European plug adapter which we'd forgotten to pack. Our room was generously proportioned, the only downside was the lack of light as it only had one window and very few lights.

Hospes Las Casas del Rey de Baeza was absolutely beautiful, the rooftop pool and lounge area is very impressive and our double deluxe was a perfectly generous size. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the service was excellent. Although we didn't eat in the restaurant Senzone the food coming out looked fabulous so maybe next time! Only point we'd mention was that there was a bit of a disappointment on our Thursday night stay when we, along with another couple there, asked for a glass of wine in the courtyard at 11.35pm and were told that the bar closed at 11.30pm and we definitely wouldn't be able to just get a quick glass each. Bit disappointing, but we did notice that this rule didn't seem to apply on the Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights so maybe its just a Monday–Thursday rule. Either way, just make sure you're back by 11.30pm or BYO from the mini-bar to enjoy the midnight terrace ambience before bed.

Corral del Agua (Callejón del Agua, hugging the gardens just past Plaza de Santa Cruz) was the perfect spot for our final supper in Seville. We were fortunate to get a table outside and enjoyed some delicious gazpacho, bull's tail –far more tender and tasty than it sounds! –and sea bass in a little courtyard beneath a canopy of sprawling vines. Fine mist was sprayed sporadically from a watering system up in the trees, keeping us cool amid the heat, and although service was prompt we did not feel rushed at all. A fabulous meal in a very special grotto setting – hurry there next time you are in Seville!

Beautiful hotel in a great location. Just wander around and soak up the atmosphere – don't worry about getting lost! Lots of fabulous small local tapas bars to discover – Casa Morales (Calle Garcia de Vinuesa 11) is excellent. Casa Placido (Calle Meson del Moro 5 & Calle Ximenes de Erciso 11; tel: 95 456 39 71) is hidden down a quiet side street.

What a beautiful hotel! We stayed on the second floor above the cool courtyard, with wicker baskets of oranges and tables inviting you to stay a little longer, take more tea and read another chapter of that book! When we made it away from the super-relaxing hotel we enjoyed the breathtaking Alcazar with its Moorish architecture and decoration. Near to the Alcazar is a fantastic street lined with great bars for drinks and tapas called Calle Mateus. We had fantastic tapas at Bar Giralda (+34 954 227 435), formerly a Moorish bath house - great value and very authentic. Another good spot for breakfast is Casa Tomate (+34 954 220 421) further up the road and the nearby Casa Placido (+34 954 563 971), a fino bar making no concessions to tourists, is another great tip.

Bar La Estrella, on Estrella (close to the Flamenco museum), is a great tapas bar that is stuffed with locals. The wine selection is great and overall much more authentic and better value than some in the immediate vicinity of the cathedral.

In Seville, we found Calle Betis, a lively street by the river to house many restaurants and bars. Abades Triana stood out as particularly stylish. Housing an upmarket restaurant indoors, a terrace bar (for well priced drinks and tapas) directly overlooking the river and the Torre del Oro, and downstairs at river level a more private chic bar with hammock seats and music. All open 9pm till late.
