Local recommendations
Try to schedule your stay at Ellenborough when there's also a race scheduled at the nearby Cheltenham Racecourse. The two properties have a lovely arrangement allowing Ellenborough to shuttle its guests to the course via Land Rover and a private trail.

What I liked
The provision of boots and coats for walking in the very muddy countryside. An outdoor pool warm enough to use in January.
What could be better
The photos didn't do the Great Hall justice. It's warmer and more inviting than depicted.

Wow, this hotel is absolutely brilliant. The service is professional, slick, warm and friendly – at odds with the formality of the building and a great asset to the management. We had dinner in the restaurant which has superb service and excellent food. Be careful with the wine menu; after a bottle of bubbly, those expensive vintage clarets are too affordable. Lol! Financial hangover next day. The heated outdoor swimming pool was a perfect start to Sunday. We had a ground-floor room in the woodlands with a private terrace onto the heated pool. Nice touch. Thank you for the free cocktail on arrival, Mr & Mrs Smith x
