The Guestbook
What a fabulous place, secluded and delightful. As recommended, Room 16 is excellent as the terrace gets the sun through until 7.30pm. The rooms are quite small and there is very little storage space, so you're beautiful room looks a mess all of the time. Dinner in the courtyard is lovely, albeit the menu doesn't change and can be limited. A trip to St Remyde Provence is highly recommended, such a perfect example of a typical village in Provence. We will definitely be returning.

A really beautiful place to stay in complete peace and quiet. The staff are exceptionally attentive and the food excellent. Unfortunately while we were there, we opened the latest Country Life and found we could purchase it for 6 million. We hope it doesn't sell.

Our stay at the Chateau was sublime. The hotel decoration, furnishings and grounds are just gorgeous and its interior designer/owner should be applauded. The best discovery was the hotel restaurant. We cannot recommend highly enough the evening meals in which you can have up to five courses – dessert is a must (best we had on our trip). The entire carte changes every night, so there is no risk of boredom. This is fantastic as the hotel is not located in the centre of a village and if like us you find yourself so wound down and relaxed that you can't be bothered venturing out, you will not be eating the same meal twice (at least we didn't). Breakfast in the pebbled courtyard was also fabulous. We would return and recommend the Chateau without hesitation.

Château de Massillan is a stunning French home set in acres of vineyards, orchards and sunflower fields. The cuisine in the hotel is spectacular: four- or five-course gastronomic feasts (with accompanying wines) which were well balanced, changed daily and made from local produce as you would expect of Provence. The real revelation though were the local restaurants which served Michelin quality food: the nearby Cote de Sud, 2km south in Uchaux, with a signature cote de boeuf with foie gras accompanied with a bottle of Cote de Rhone St Esteve made in commune Uchaux. Our favourite though was the unassuming La Farigoule restaurant in the charming village of Sainte Cecile les Vignes where you can sample goats cheese and roquefort flavoured ice cream! Not to be missed are the immaculately preserved Roman antiquities in Orange and Nimes - among the best preserved Roman theatre, circus and aqueduct in Europe.
