Upon arrival in Mykonos town, we were greeted by the hotel staff who transferred us to the hotel. We were given a welcome drink of bubbly which we enjoyed as it melted away stress from the early morning ferry ride. The staff gave us a map, explained the various beaches and restaurants, offered to lend assistance for any travel queries and then gave us a ride into the town for lunch.

We sat at Niko's taverna, a family-run Greek taverna near Little Venice at Ag. Moni Sq. near Parapotianis (+30 22890 24320). We tucked into stuffed aubergine and meatballs with tomato sauce and enjoyed the crisp white wine from Santorini. It was so good we ended up eating there again later in the trip. After lunch, we walked around to the four windmills that make Mykonos famous and enjoyed the view. Another night, we enjoyed dinner at Kounela's fish taverna (+30 22890 28220) just off the port, where you get to select your whole fish and munch on bread and olive tapenade while you wait.

When we returned to the hotel, we found out that we had been upgraded to a suite with a large veranda and private pool.The room was amazing with a big bathroom boasting a jacuzzi bath and rain shower. We immediately enjoyed our champagne and fruit basket and felt right at home. The staff were excellent in bringing us more ice for our drinks and the pool bar had excellent cocktails. The breakfast buffet every morning had anything you would want including freshly made juices. I would highly recommend this hotel and do splurge on a room with a private pool – it makes a world of difference.
