We arrived very early on Saturday morning for our week stay at Castell d'Emporda, after our overnight train from Paris, you have to try this once. Our room wasn't ready as the hotel was fully booked, so we made ourselves very comfortable on the lovely day beds by the pool. The room was worth the wait, especially the fantastic views over the surrounding farmland villages. Food at the hotel is fantastic, although you definitely need to book. For a scenic few hours, try hiring bikes and cycling the loop from the hotel through the historic villages of Peratallada, Palau-Sator, and Ullastret and back again. There are a few tough hills but amazing scenery, and a few good options for tapas/sangria stops.
