The Guestbook

Lovely B’n’B. Eat at Torre d'Oriente across the valley for views and food. A steep walk down to town and back, but its good exercise to walk off dinner.

Casa Talia exceeded our expectations. The essence of a boutique hotel.

Restaurant highlight was a trattoria in Marina di ragusa - right on the beachfront, quite simple and local and reasonabl;y priced. Great way to while away a few hours.

Also just sitting under the olive tree at Casa Talia eating breakfast was one of lifes simple pleasures. The atmosphere of a not overcommercialised town, 400 years old, no doubt helped. We were also a big wrap for Viviana (spelling ??) who was just delightful.

Casa Talia is a real surprise. Set into the side of a hill, it looks just like houses on a normal residential street until the owners show you the secret swipe card location! Six luxurious rooms (ours was Il Mediterraneo, which has beautiful blue tiles on the wall and a stunning bathroom) are linked by a garden with fantastic views across Modica Bassa to Modica Alta and the Duomo San Giorgio - really spectacular. Make sure you remember to call before you arrive though, so that someone is there to let you in. We forgot, and had to sit and wait...

Two recommendations in Modica are the famous chocolate shop Dolceria Bonajuto opposite the Duomo San Pietro in Modica bassa (+39 093 2941225). They'll give you lots of free samples and a free gift if you spend enough (we did!). Also visit a restaurant called Torre d'Oriente (+39 093 2948160). The restaurant is in Modica Bassa, tucked away up a hill near the Church of Santa Maria di Betlem, and has a lovely terrace with good views. They have a great selection of Sicilian wine and the food is fantastic.
