Getting there
Anantara Si Kao is on the Andaman Coast, in Thailand's south west. The nearest large town is Trang, 45 minutes' drive away, although many visitors arrive at Krabi Airport, which is a 90-minute drive away.
- Planes There are several flights a day from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, and flights from Kuala Lumpur to Krabi. Local airline Nok Air also has daily flights from Bangkok's Don Muang Airport (not Suvarnabhumi) to Trang Airport, which is 45 kilometres away.
- Trains Thailand’s rail system (www.railway.co.th) is rather slow and creaky, but first- and second-class seats are air-conditioned and comfortable. It's a different way to see more of the country if you have the time. There’s an overnight train from Bangkok’s Hualamphong Station to Trang.
- Automobiles The resort is a 90-minute drive from Krabi Airport and 30 minutes from Trang. The hotel can organise airport transfers. From Trang the cost is THB1,650 a car each way; from Krabi it is THB2,750 a car each way.
- Others Make the most of the sparkling, azure-hued Andaman Sea by chartering Anantara’s Sunseeker Manhattan 60 luxury yacht, The Minor Affair, to take you from Ao Po Grand Marina in Phuket to Anantara Si Kao. It takes three-and-a-half hours non-stop, but to soak up the spectacular seascape (and because you have to charter the yacht for the whole day), we recommend you adopt a slower pace and stop off for snorkelling on the way. The price starts at THB205,000 (excluding taxes) for a full-day charter including lunch – so you might want to find a few friends to share it with. The yacht has room for eight guests.
