Getting there

Planes

There are flights from Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra to nearby Albury Airport with Qantaslink (www.qantas.com.au), Regional Express (REX; www.rex.com.au), Virgin Blue (www.virginblue.com.au) and Brindabella (www.brindabellaairlines.com.au). Then it’s just an hour’s drive to Beechworth. Rental car companies at Albury include Budget (www.budget.com.au), Thrifty (www.thrifty.com.au), Europcar (www.europcar.com.au) and Avis (www.avis.com.au).

Trains

You can travel by V/Line (www.vline.com.au) from Melbourne to Wangaratta, then take the coach connection to Beechworth. From Sydney, CountryLink services (www.countrylink.info) run to Albury. Connect through to Beechworth with Wangaratta Coachlines (www.wangarattacoachlines.com.au).

Automobiles

The town is an easy three-hour drive from Melbourne just off the Hume Highway | which runs between Sydney and Melbourne. A longer and more scenic option is to take the Great Alpine Road | which starts in Bairnsdale | east of Melbourne. Beechworth lies in eastern Victoria | almost on the border of New South Wales.
