THE STANDARD, LA
Andre Balazs' rock-star hangout has a decidedly kitsch quality (shagpile carpets, David Lynch interiors, baths big enough for three) that fits nicely with its Sunset Strip location, and at pool level it's more of the same. Models, musos and mini-moguls kick back on the sundeck's loungers, waterbed cabanas and blue AstroTurf decking while the adjacent bar throngs to ambient house music. Not the spot for a quiet swim and sudoku.
