Take advantage of Grunewald’s forests and go golfing, horse riding or jogging nearby. The hotel can arrange sailing trips on the lakes nearby. Visit the historic palaces on your doorstep – Grunewald Hunting Lodge is the oldest of Berlin’s Prussian palaces. If you’re here during summer, head for the beaches. There are plenty of treasures to be found at the city's famous fleamarket, including vintage furniture, clothes, sunglasses and a stash of old records. The market is housed in a park by Bernauer Strasse, close to where the Wall once was.
Local restaurants
Feast on traditional German fare cooked with flair at Reinhard’s Landhaus (+49 (0)30 8953 800) a gracious country house at 56 Koenigsallee, Grunewald. Try the calf liver or schnitzel, and finish off with a Kaiserschmarrn – a sugary confection made from raisin-peppered pancakes, served with plum jam. La Cascina is an elegant Italian restaurant in the heart of Grunewald, at 28 Delbrückstraße (+49 (0)30 826 1794). There’s a pretty patio, perfect for summer months, and fresh, flavoursome dishes, including succulent seafood.
