Getting there

Planes
Donegal Airport at Carrickfin is served by Aer Arann (www.aerarann.com) flights from Dublin and Glasgow Prestwick. Another option is to use City of Derry Airport – Ryanair (www.ryanair.com) flies here from London Stansted, Birmingham, Glasgow Prestwick, East Midlands and Liverpool, and Faro in Portugal. British Airways (www.ba.com) has flights to this airport from Glasgow and Dublin, and Aer Arann also flies to Dublin from here. Knock Airport is two hours away; Belfast is three.

Boats
There are ferry ports in Dublin, Belfast and Larne, served by Stena Line (www.stenaline.co.uk) and P&O Irish Sea (www.poirishsea.com).

Automobiles
The roads in rural Ireland can be narrow, windy and bumpy, not to mention foggy, so be prepared. The A2 will get you south from Derry. From Dublin, the N3 and R206 will come in handy; from Belfast, it’s the A6, A5 and N15.
