In the know
- Our favourite rooms
- The Studio Loft room 1018 has a wood-burning fireplace at the foot of the bed and is laid out to maximise the sense of space– the Standard rooms are on the small side. The Alcove Suite has a huge soaking tub set within a sparkly-tiled nook – it’s like bathing inside a disco ball. If you can, book a room above the eighth floor to minimise Midtown street noise. If you’re lucky enough to spend a night in the three Penthouses, you’ll have a lavish private roof terrace where you can lord it over the Manhattan skyline.
- Packing tips
- Opera glasses for scrutinising the stages of nearby Broadway, and an iPod stuffed with showtunes to bring the showbiz soundtrack back to your boudoir.
- Also
- As well as an impressive selection of snacks and drinks, Royalton’s rather eccentric minibars include intimacy kits, hangover cures, Korres products, and saucily sloganned T-shirts.

Food & drink
- Hotel restaurant
- Nautically inspired in both decor and dishes, Brasserie 4 is a warm, woody space hung with nets and lined camel leather booths. The Modern America menu leans heavily on fresh fish and seafood, but chef Scott Ekstrom also works wonders with classic New York steaks. There’s a pre-theatre menu for early diners.
- Dress code
- After-party chic – louche and loungey.
- Top table
- The brasserie’s banquette booths all afford privacy, so hunker down in one of these. For snacky bar food or drinks, Royalton’s packed with moodily lit nooks, alcoves and cubbyholes to lose entire evenings in.
