The Pelham is in a great location for the Natural History Museum, the V&A and the Royal Albert Hall. It is across the road from South Kensington tube station which is on the Circle Line, so really handy for most central London locations and beyond. The concierge was great – he recommended an Irish pub (Waxy's Little Sister) off Leicester Square to watch the rubgy – great atmosphere and packed to the rafters. We also ventured to Bumpkins in Notting Hill for Sunday lunch – great food and very friendly staff – you must book though (we did via Top Table). Also check out the cheese shop Le Cave à Fromage opposite The Pelham – heaven for all cheese lovers.
During our stay at the Pelham in December we ate at Launceston Place, a short walk from the hotel and really enjoyed it. The food was absolutely exquisite and the restaurant was cosy, romantic and we felt like London locals since it was a bit off the beaten track. A really super evening out.
Approaching the front door of the Pelham reminded me of Upstairs Downstairs, but rather than Hudson, I was met by a very efficient concierge who escorted me to my room, all very hushed and sumptuous, so far so good. It was then I noticed a slow rumble which began to repeat itself with increasing intrusion into my peace and quiet, the lift! Ah ha, thought I, what will front desk do about this? I had already missed out on a room upgrade as the hotel was full. With swift action Hudson’s alter ego escorted me to a replacement room. After a fantastic concert at Westminster Cathedral I returned to the hotel to see what Mrs Bridges and Ruby could knock up. I am happy to report that Bistro 15, as the hotel’s restaurant is called, served up superb scallops and a delicious mushroom and herb risotto. And after a good night’s sleep in a most comfy bed the kitchen produced a very excellent breakfast. This is a great little hotel, two lovely reading and sitting rooms, perfect for Kensington’s museums and the shops of Knightsbridge and nothing more than a hop and a skip from South Ken tube.
