In the know
- Our favourite rooms
- Each room is identified by its oversized bedhead, which consists of a panel printed with a culinary image. Cream of the food-themed crop is Chocolate, the biggest and most luxurious room, with a claw-foot roll-top bath and a big walk-in shower, but Green Olive and Chilli Pepper are large too. Spacious Strawberry has window seats, great for market-square people-watching. Top-floor rooms reflect the age of the building, with beamed ceilings and sloping floors; Marshmallow and Artichoke have lovely views. Raspberry and Oyster are small but sweet.
- Packing tips
- Wellies and walking sticks, jodphurs and riding crops, hip flask, and sticks for dogs to chase.
- Also
- The bookshelf-lined library brings old and new together in a fusion of gentleman’s club, plush bar and country house; definitely somewhere to retire after dinner for a quiet digestif.
Food & drink
- Hotel restaurant
- Settle into a comfy high-backed chair and sample the attractive dining room’s substantial menu of simple, seasonal delights; we loved the melt-in-the-mouth lamb shanks and Oriental-style scallops.
