Palma has gone through a renaissance, and emblematic of those changes is Puro. Converted from a 14th-century palace hotel, its simple stone exterior has hardly changed over the centuries. Step inside and it’s a different story. Puro has 26 rooms, most of them overlooking the central courtyard of natural white stone decorated with palms and fountains. There is a sensation of retreat from the sun-baked streets and discovery of the calm, oasis-like interior.

- €165–€495 plus seven per cent tax, (this usually includes breakfast, but check when booking). If your stay includes a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night, a minimum three-night stay is required.

- Wireless Internet, Bose sound systems, digital library with DVDs and music. Massage is available in your room.

- The pool is located 15 minutes from the hotel.

- From 8pm until 11.30am, the full restaurant menu is available in your room. At lunchtime, when the restaurant is closed, there is a snack menu.

- Open each day. Thursday, Friday and Saturday night have DJ sets.
