In the know
- Our favourite rooms
- Not so much rooms, as villas. All five are very special and unique, harnessing modern architecture and design to dazzling effect, with neutral tones, grey granite, glass and steel in the ascendent. Don't worry, though, they’re cosy too, with cashmere throws, tactile cushions, mood lighting, splashes of colour and wood warming things up. All are large, light and amazingly open to the environment care of glass walls, vast decks and loungers for chilling out to bay views. Intimate First Light is recommended for couples, the Sacred Space villa has a lovely high-ceilinged lounge, but presidential suite Rahimoana (Maori for 'Sun God over the Ocean') is the ultimate in indulgence. It’s super-chic with four spacious, view-tastic ensuite bedrooms and serene, crisply contemporary blue and white interiors enhanced by striking art. Add in a glossy fireplace, home cinema, bar, endless deck and your own 25-metre heated lap pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, state-of-the-art gym and private beach, and you can see the appeal. Rates include a personal concierge to accommodate your every need, as well as a chef-stocked fridge and use of a Porsche Cayenne Turbo (plus chauffeur) for local drives in Russell. Nice.

- Villas are serviced daily with eco-friendly products and the resort recycles all bottles and paper. Guests are also invited to opt into energy and water conservation schemes.
- Also
- If you fancy getting fit after all that flopping around, you can bag some time with Eagles Nest's personal trainer, then relax with a beauty or massage treatment; extra charges apply for both. There are also free mountain bikes at your villa.
Food & drink
- Hotel restaurant
- All villas are self-contained with a gourmet kitchen and each is provided daily with breakfast provisions. However, most guests forego DIY and make use of the resort's resident private chefs (even Jamie Oliver deserves a holiday), who will prepare anything you'd like. Freshly caught local fish, crayfish, lobster, venison and lamb are all on offer, so just sit back and enjoy. You can also bring in your own chefs if you wish (we're loving this lifestyle!). Eagles Nest has a comprehensive wine cellar with several thousand bottles of vino from around the globe to help wash it all down.
- Dress code
- Designer casual; you don't have to leave the villa if you don't want to, but if you're surrounded by luxury why not look the part?
- Top table
- It's hard to beat eating outdoors on your own private deck – all villas have open-air dining with eye-popping ocean views. But Rahimoana's sleek glass eight-seater dining table indoors gets a big style thumbs up too.
- Room service
- Staff are on hand as much or as little as you like for room service. It comes in many a luxe guise at Eagles Nest, with personal chefs, catering, butlers and shoppers (to stock your fridge with tasty provisions) on call for an additional charge.
- Hotel bar
- There is no actual public bar area but simply let staff know what drinks you require and they'll be delivered immediately. Rahimoana is the only villa with its own bar (if you’re not a cocktail master the Eagle crew will be happy to make whatever concoction you desire).
