Worth getting out of bed for
Talk to hotel staff about renting a fluisterboot (‘whispering boat’), these small, motored vessels are the ideal way to explore your Waterland surroundings. Proximity to the harbour also means watersports, such as sailing, are easily arranged. Again, the hotel can help.
Nearby villages Markem and Volendam are essential tick boxes on the Netherlands cultural tour; both over pretty wooden houses, traditional dress, and Edam cheese. On a sunny day, you can cycle to Markem in 45 minutes (you can on a rainy day too, but we wouldn’t recommend it).
