A two-minute walk from the chaotic main square Djemaa El Fna, Riad Lotus Ambre has a courtyard and an impressive (if diminutive) lush garden dominated by a sparrow-filled orange tree. The rooms are named according to its Warholesque pop art. A roof terrace offers white bamboo daybeds, cushions and a Jacuzzi – an opium-style den completes the scene. Very Ibiza.

- D'Arabie, off the courtyard, is roomy. Suite Kennedy (up a winding flight of stairs: careful if you're over 5'4) has a teeny balcony, TV lounge, double bed and two singles; ideal for a family. For an armchair in the bathroom, go for Goethe.
