I would highly recomend the restaurant La Tupina at 6 rue Porte de la Monnaie, in the centre of Bordeaux (+33 5 56 91 56 37). Traditional south west cuisine cooked on a traditional range. Big portions but delicious - the cassoulet was a great hit! We also ate at the hotel on our last evening which was wonderful.
My boyfriend and I have just got back from a three-night trip to Bordeaux and it was one of the best mini-breaks we've ever had! The city really is beautiful and, as the centre is mostly pedestrianised, it's lovely to wander around. A couple of recommendations if you're eating out: the room guide in the hotel recommended Le Café du Port, which we went to on Saturday evening. It has a fabulous view across the river to the main city of Bordeaux, so get there in time to watch the sunset from the terrace – it's stunning. The food, wine and service also couldn't be faulted and we would definitely be back. We tried to get into La Tupina, which does more regional dishes, but unfortunately it's incredibly popular and we hadn't booked - looked well worth a try, but could be quite pricey.
We would also recommend booking onto one of the vineyard tours, which you can do at the tourist office. We managed to get on a half-day trip to St-Emilion, which included a tour round a vineyard, a tasting and a visit to St-Emilion itself – a really beautiful village, with plenty of cafés and restaurants if you wanted to stay a little longer.
