Just to the north of Lyon, the Michelin-starred L’Auberge de l’Ile on Place Notre Dame, L’Ile Barbe (+33 (0)4 78 83 99 49), is a très romantique 17th-century house surrounded by wooded gardens. It has a cigar room but is decidedly unstuffy. Guy Lassausaie on Rue de Belle Cise in Chasselay (+33 (0)4 78 47 62 59) is another excellent Michelin-starred option with a contemporary atmosphere. Le Vieux Moulin on Chemin du Vieux Moulin in the village of Alix (+33 (0)4 78 43 91 66) is a stone-built Rhône-side mill, converted into a relaxed country inn where you can fill up on rustic French fare, from mustardy sausages to frog’s legs.
