Definitely worth checking out the nearby Buddha Bar outpost (+420 221 776 300). The restaurant/bar is a chic, atmospheric place to start or end the evening, with expertly made cocktails and great food. Another great find is the cafe/restaurant along the river near the Charles Bridge at the Kampa Contemporary Art Museum. A great spot for lunch, with an outdoor terrace by the river that has views across to the bridge and the old town. The museum itself has a stunning collection of contemporary Czech and central European art.

There have been many dire warnings that Prague would be spoilt by the tourism boom it has seen. Well, whether or not I had left it too late to visit this city I will never know, but what I found was a European city that has not suffered the ravages of two world wars. The old part on either side of the vltava river is just beautiful. Getting around on foot is simple, the tram and metro are not only fantastic value but incredibly efficiant and comprehensive. Must do? take the funicular and view this gorgeous city from on high then stroll back through the amazing castle building complex back to the city below. And what about Hotel Josef? It's very stylish, if you like glass and chrome, the staff are extremely helpful and the beds are very big! The glass bathrooms are quite amazing too, it does make you open and close doors gingerly, but dont worry most of the internal glass is opaque for modesty's sake. Breakfast is a combination of buffet and waiter served. All in all a great value for money hotel bang in the centre of this gorgeous city, go there!

Hotel Josef is a very cool and contemporary hotel in a brilliant location in the centre of Prague. Breakfast was brilliant. Serving breakfast until 12.30pm on weekends was more brilliant still, under the circumstances! Great place, great people, great idea... but beware the glass toilet!
