We recently stayed at Hermitage Bay – and after reading the reviews were really excited about it. The hotel and location are beautiful – the rooms are large and well appointed, the main areas are again decorated to a high standard and there is lots of room to find a nook for a private moment. However, we were very disappointed with the food and service. On check-in, we waited for over 20 mins before being shown to our room (which is the longest check-in I have ever encountered). Also, the service at meal times was at times laborious – we waited over an hour from getting a morning cup of tea until the breakfast arrived. Which in my mind, when you are paying top notch, is not acceptable. Also the food was generally overcooked (especially the fish). I feel the the hotel was understaffed and we fed this back to the hotel. And the hotel shop was so overpriced it was unbelievable. So all in all a good hotel, but service needs to be improved and remember to spray on insect repellent as not only do they have mozzies, they have sand flies too..
