In the know
- Our favourite rooms
- Of the nine high-ceilinged cabanas, five are positioned on the beachfront, steps from the surf. Book one on either end of this first row for more privacy and uninterrupted views. Each one has been built from sustainable Amazon wood, with palm leaves shaping the 20-foot high roofs. Decor is sparse and simple to emphasise airiness and space.
- Packing tips
- There are no TVs here, so if you need a distraction beyond the stunning scenery, pack a holiday bookshelf.
- Also
- If you’re visiting between June and November keep your eyes on the ocean – it’s breeding time for the local whale community and you can usually spot the Jubarte whales gathering around Bahia shores.

Tauana Hotel
Bahia, Brazil[view map]
- Style
- Eco-chic seashore shacks
- Setting
- Blissful Corumbau beachfront
A clean-lined bubble of bliss beside an untouched swathe of Brazilian beach, the eco-resort of Tauana comprises just nine wooden cabañas, each one boasting a thatched ceiling 20 feet from the ground and an enormous muslin-draped bed. Interiors evoke the Danish modernism of the Sixties and Seventies (the owner’s an architect), but the exterior’s the real looker – tall palms, sugary sands, and azure ocean stretching out into infinity.
