In the know
- Our favourite rooms
- Each bedroom in Quamby is unique, blending restored heritage features and furniture with original art, simple palettes, luxe modern bathrooms and hi-tech gadgets. Deluxe room 9 is our top choice for romance, with a bold black rug and slightly European furniture, topped off with a minimal freestanding bath opposite the bed, and a separate shower room. Sky-blue toned room 10 has a gorgeous bath beside low windows so you can sit back in the bubbles and enjoy impressive views over the back of the estate. Smaller superior rooms come with showers only (Room 8 is pretty in pink). Upstairs rooms feel more private.
- Packing tips
- Bed socks (as despite the toasty gas fireplaces in bedrooms the wooden floors can feel cold), golf threads and walking shoes (the estate is beautiful in the mornings if you fancy a stroll at sunrise).
- Also
- Quamby's tantalising entrance avenue, lined with ancient poplars, hawthorns and elms, sets the tone here: you’ve got 64 hectares of gorgeous grounds to explore, which change colours dramatically with the seasons. History fans will love the elegant, colonial Anglo-Indian-style homestead too, built in the 1830s and inspired by British army barracks from the Indian Raj. We love the drawing room, where the grand marble fireplace, gold-framed mirror and French doors are offset by bold modern green ottomans and contemporary artwork. And the original service bells lining the wall to the former maid's area (now the kitchen), which add a dash of olde worlde charm.

- Savour modern Australian dishes – such as rack of lamb with butternut pumpkin purée and rosemary butter, or Atlantic salmon with citrus juices and mash – in Quamby’s small, simple dining room, a crisp mix of black chairs, white linen and vibrant artworks, where dinner is held nightly. There's an intimate atmosphere as it's not open to the public, with relaxed service and a focus on fresh local produce, including a tempting cheese selection. Breakfast is served around a communal table in the kitchen, or take it out on the homestead’s sandstone verandah in summer. Lunch is only available Friday through Sunday, from noon till 3pm, and tea is served in the elegant drawing room.
