• Honeymoons • Romantic breaks • Peace and quiet • Lazy days

What I liked

Amazing breakfast, great service and phenomonal view. The effort the team went to make our wedding happen and look so fantastic.

What could be better

Small stuff. We were removed from the main site - which meant the internet connection in our room was patchy. The jacuzzi could be better situated outside than inside, given how hot it is.

Local recommendations

We've been going to Greece for many years. We tried all the ones listed on your site. Pirouni almost at the entrance to the hotel was probably the best one in Firostefani and Ginger the sushi restaurant was excellent for a break from the greek fare. For those looking for really good food (some of the best we have had in Greece) Anogi in Imerovigli is unbeatable. Amazing food (try the lamb kleftiko or the spinach pie) and the service was fantastic. It is about a 15 minute walk in the heat of the day but definitely worth it. The staff at the reception can give you details on how to get there. I throroughly recommend it but you definitely need to book ahead for dinner. There were queues both nights we ate there.

Just home after a fantastic week at Sun Rocks. It's true that you absolutely need a moment to catch your breath climbing all the stairs up to reception, but the views you have when trying to not look out of breath are spectacular and awe-inspiring. The staff here are some of the most polite, professional, most attentive staff I've seen in a long time, even to the point of coming to assist with the moving of your sun lounger recline up or down when they see you reach for the back of your lounger. Nothing is too much trouble and they go out of their way to anticipate your needs, usually offering you something right at the time that you've just decided that a nice cool glass of wine would be quite nice actually. The food is fantastic, the Greek salad and Greek sandwich became almost daily orders and I'm currently having withdrawals from their homemade tzatziki. The breakfast menu included in the cost is quite vast and isn't restrictive in what you can order, only prompting us to ask for far more food than necessary every morning – but then what are holidays for? The more expensive private dinner for €85 a head is a gastronomic delight with the chef coming out to meet you post-dinner. We had amazing views of the famous Santorini sunset and with only three tables in the small open-air dining patio it's very intimate. Overall this is a gem of a little hotel which makes you feel relaxed, pampered and part of an exclusive little club all at the same time. It very much lived up to my expectations and I'd like to go back now please.

If you fancy a change from the local traditional food, try Ginger, the only Japanese restaurant in Firostefani. It's a very short walk up to the right from Sun Rocks. The sushi is delicious and the steak, served sizzling, still cooking on a hot volcanic rock, is excellent.

The Ginger Sushi Lounge (www.santorinisushi.com; +30 22860 21335) just a short stumble from the hotel was divine. We enjoyed delicious sushi and ice-cold crisp wine as the swirling evening clouds descended, floodlit by the great shafts of light illuminating the church roof above. Atmosphere by the bucketload.

We went to dinner at Ammoudi Bay one night and stumbled upon a new, very cool bar and restaurant called βραχος (+30 69823 17980) that we would highly recommend. I found out the translation means 'rock', and boy does it ever. Cool vibe, great DJ and hip white interior with exterior terraces that are reminiscent of a Greek version of Nikki Beach. Turns out it opened just a week before we were there, around the middle of August. We did not eat there, but had wonderful after-dinner cocktails and a yummy dessert after our more traditional fish dinner at Dimitri's (very good as well). A great find! I just wish we were there earlier because it is probably a great place to watch the sunset.
