Schlosshotel im Grunewald Brahmsstrasse 10 Berlin 14193 Berlin DE

Schlosshotel im Grunewald

Berlin, Germany

Style Chic Lagerfeld-beloved palace

Setting Grunewald gardens

Built by the Kaiser as a gift for his lawyer (and perhaps his very delightful wife), Schlosshotel im Grunewald is a regal, refined palace set in a green sprawl of gardens, and styled in the past by Karl Lagerfeld. There’s a fine dining restaurant and an indulgent spa and swimming pool. It’s a peaceful hotel, but the city centre is close by.

Food and drink at Schlosshotel im Grunewald

  • Hotel restaurant Restaurant Vivaldi is an elegant, impressive setting, with equally refined food. Chandeliers, gold-painted ceilings, glossy wood walls, gargantuan mirrors and dazzling white tables and chairs create an opulent backdrop for the traditional Danish fare, such as tender venison with a port wine and pepper jus. You can also breakfast in Le Jardin, a conservatory that spills out into the garden, or lunch in Alter Wintergarten, the pretty and serene lilac sitting room.
  • Dress code This is food to dress up for – sport a crisp shirt or dramatic dress. Honour Lagerfeld with some Chanel threads.
  • Top table All of the tables are lovely, but perhaps if you're fine dining it, ask them to seat you somewhere romantic.
  • Last orders You can feast in the restaurant until 10pm. The bar normally closes around midnight, but it will stay open later, if guests are still drinking.
  • Room service Available 24 hours a day, including snacks and salads, along with mains and desserts from the restaurant menu.
  • Hotel bar Le Tire Bouchon is styled as an English bar, replete with bold stripy wallpaper, chesterfields, floral-print armchairs, portly vases, dramatic landscapes, a statuesque fireplace and wooden cabinets stocked with a gentlemen’s club-worthy selection of cigars and beautifully bottled liquor.

In the know

Our favourite rooms

All the rooms are very different. We love Monrepose Suite which has an elegant dove grey and charcoal palette, with dark-wood antique cabinets, sofas in rich berry shades, iron casts and regal-looking portraits. The Library Suite is a romantic choice hidden away in the lofts, with a vaulted ceiling, garden views and a bookworm-seducing stash of tomes.

Packing tips

Glamorous attire for the formal restaurant; bike-friendly shoes; a Hermann Hesse novel. Leave your inhibitions at home – the city’s cabarets bode for saucy nights.

Also

Guests can use the spa and the hotel’s bicycles (depending on availability) free. Karl Lagerfeld couture-ified the hotel’s decor in 1992 and traces of this remain.
