What I liked
Excellent modern hotel with stunning interiors. Bedrooms are of a good size, very clean and with all the facilities you need. The only possible addition might be a mini bar. The gym is worth checking out: it's quite small but well equipped and you are more than likely to have it to yourself. Our evening meal in the restaurant was superb, with a good range of choices; we both had the rump skirt which was excellent. We also sampled room service, which was also pretty good. Breakfast comprised both a hot and cold buffet. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful at this hotel. The cocktail bar is definitely worth a visit and my request for a clean glass for my wine was met with profuse apologies and a quick replacement. The hotel is well located for Guildford, just 15 minutes away. I would highly recommend this hotel and think it offers very good value for money.
What could be better
The hot buffet was only lukewarm on the first morning and the coffee wasn't great.
Local recommendations
Elstead Mill, Elstead, is a lovely converted water mill with a bistro-style restaurant; it serves good quality food all day. There are lots of great pubs in and around Guildford; you'll be spoilt for choice.

What I liked
Our second visit to the Aviator this year and it's still as good as the first time round. The Sky Suite is definitely the room to book; lots of space, lots of luxury, lots of TVs and a fabulous bathroom. We had a great view of the airport, which was really busy, so the boyfriend was able to be super geeky and do lots of plane spotting. Late evening drinks on the terrace in the sun were perfect and once again the Sky Bar delivered fabulous cocktails. Food in the restaurant was once again blooming good, lovely staff, looking after us wonderfully.
What could be better
They have removed alcohol from the mini bar in the room, which was a little disappointing as room service takes a while to get to you.
Local recommendations
Heron On The Lake is a lovely local pub, great decking overlooking the lake, gets very busy. Good pub grub, reasonably priced in a lovely venue. Also worth a visit is the Brooklands Museum in Weybridge, it's only 30 minutes away. Beautiful old cars and planes lovingly restored, great old characters that are happy to share their stories and the third Concorde (lots of the parts were made there) which you can go on. Super, super cool day.

What I liked
Friendly, helpful and efficient staff. A high standard of accommodation in a modern cool style. Offers a glimpse into the world of private jets.
What could be better
It's actually a business hotel; no pool, spa or garden. By a main road. Good as a base . Not much good for relaxing. Just beginning to need updating after four years.
Local recommendations
The Courtyard Restaurant in Hartley Whitney, just 10 miles away, good food and great value (early evening and lunch only). West Green House Gardens (www.westgreenhouse.co.uk/the_garden).

What I liked
Sophisticated and stylish. A grown-up place that has great food, wine and cocktails to enjoy and is pretentious enough to be pretty great.
What could be better
The main areas are good. Everything is pristine clean but I had to wait a while for breakfast, although I am certain this was just one of those things.
Local recommendations
The Seahorse for lunch was really nice, but it was on the other side of Guilford so local might not be the right word (+44 (0)1483 514351). Stick with the cocktails and you'll be happy enough.

The perfect stay for a weekend of good food/wine and luxurious room amenities. Aviator definitely makes for an uber cool stay in suburbia. Recommend rooms looking out onto the airfield (Room 228 in particular).

What a superb hotel. With only one foot through the front door we were greeted by the concierge who showed us to reception and offered us help with our bags – luxury from the off. This set the tone for what was to be an extremely relaxing and indulgent weekend. A room at the back of the hotel is a must, we remembered our binoculars and had great fun doing a bit of plane spotting whilst deciding what time to enjoy our welcome cocktail. The free films are also a bonus for a lazy afternoon.

The Aviator is a stylish hotel: sleek, modern and with its own twist on character, making the most of its flying theme. Whilst the location may not be everyone's cup of tea – overlooking the airport and just off the main road – it certainly has everything you need for a cosy stay. The restaurant, food and service was on the whole excellent. Staff are generally very attentive. However on the second morning's breakfast, two wedding parties had been staying and this did turn the service into a little bit of shambles. As is most people's wont on a leisurely Sunday, the bulk of guests opted for the end of the breakfast sitting and this resulted in quite a long delay in getting any hot food. So much so that we just settled for the buffet option and went elsewhere for something warm. The stylish cocktail bar will start your evening well and with a gym and also a little deli bar to hand as an alternative for snacks, this place certainly had most things covered well. Staff always friendly and offering to go the extra mile. The overall town location was not the most scenic by any means, but if you like or need to be in the area then I would certainly recommend this hotel as an excellent choice.

Most enjoyable: comfortable, well appointed, a view of the airfield (which was better than it sounds), a warm welcome and cold drink on arrival and a rather good breakfast. We also enjoyed the building and its design. Looking forward to going back.

We had a fabulous weekend staying at the Aviator. The hotel is beautifully furnished and styled, with friendly service and delicious food. The breakfast in particular was great, although a number of items had run out on the Sunday morning and we had to ask for them to replenish these. Our room overlooked the runway and it was a unique experience getting excited when seeing private planes take off or land. The DVD and music library was the perfect excuse to have a lazy day in bed and really helped with the whole point of our weekend away, which was to escape the rat race and relax. On the Friday evening we arrived, the hotel had their first DJ night in the Sky Bar. Live music and tasty cocktails was the perfect start to a perfect weekend. We also dined at the hotel restaurant on the Saturday night and despite the scallops entree which I ordered having sold out, the food and presentation of the dishes was impressive. Windsor, Ascot and Sunningdale aren't far away for lovely drives and the hotel is only 1.15 hours from London. I certainly look forward to staying at the Aviator again.

We enjoyed our stay at the very swanky Aviator. A much larger hotel than we usually go for and were concerned that it would feel anonymous and corporate. You can't help but appreciate its quite unique design – we were told its shape is that of a propeller. The staff in fact were very friendly, particularly concierge and reception staff. We took advantage of the 2-for-1 offer and booked an air studio but were upgraded to a suite on the residential side of the hotel. Views were not that inspiring, however we loved the suite so much that we decided to stay put – besides we weren't there to stare out of the window and watch planes. Couple of negatives though: breakfast staff not as friendly as other staff we encountered and the evening meal in the brasserie was a little disapointing. Although the room service meal was excellent in quality and the in-room freebies – ie films, minibar etc were a great touch. Would definitely recommend staying to anyone and although the area itself isn't the most picturesque, it is within shooting distance of quaint Hampshire villages and attractions such as Jane Austen's house. We had great weather and a great time. Glad we booked.

What an amazing hotel! Seems like an odd choice for a romantic weekend but we were blown away by our suite, the standard of welcome and the service in this über slick hotel. The food was nice, it didn't blow our socks off, but was perfectly good, aside from a rather dumb comment made by one of the hotel staff at dinner. I wanted a surprise pudding with candles for my boyfriend’s birthday, and had previously arranged it with the hotel, but when we walked in to dinner the front of house girl that greeted us said we had a table for two and let slip that it was a birthday dinner, thus robbing any element of surprise; then no surprise pudding turned up! I was furious and mentioned it to the girl who had checked us in at reception who had the good grace to look embarrassed for her colleague. The next day some complimentary bubbly and chocolate-coated strawberries were waiting for us in our room. The champagne breakfast in bed was lovely, as was the candlelit turndown, and the bathroom was the stuff of dreams – I could have stayed in there all day. An amazing hotel and although it may seem like a wacky choice for a break it was the bees’ knees.

Don't be deceived by the location of this hotel at the side of a main road; once inside, it's a magnificent sight with a staircase akin to that of the Starship Enterprise. The rooms are beautiful and spacious and the added extra of a complimentary minibar in the suites seals the deal. Stay in bed, drink the minibar dry and choose from an array of complimentary movies in your room. We ate one night at the Swan, a local pub with excellent food. No need for a taxi though, as we discovered the pub is a two-minute walk down from the hotel.

Fantastic hospitality at this hotel. Amazing cocktails and breakfast. Was a great hotel to unwind, watch DVDs and watch the planes. We went for an Airside room, definitely book Airside. I would have ungraded as the room did not have a bath. I visited the studios and suites and think they would have been perfect to have more space. Gym is very small and there's no pool but the Brasserie is fantastic and the architecture incredible. The bar got quite busy on Saturday night but there are lots of lounges that are preferable. Will definitely come back but would take an Airside suite next time.

This is a great winter hotel, made even better by the staff who are welcoming and professional. Farnborough does not feature on my list of places to visit, but the Aviator has such a calming effect that we've been now several times. We haven't actually been out and about in Farnborough but we did go to Cobham, which was rather good. It has good coffee shops, good shops and is very easy to park in. One comment I would make about the Aviator is to check beforehand whether there is a function on. It is not noisy but you can hear a beat. We did mention it to the staff who were extremely accommodating.

Whilst Aviator's brilliant and close to some stunning scenery, if Mother Nature intervenes and renders this unavailable, there's not really much to do in Farnborough by way of back up. Step into Guildford, 20 mins in the car from Farnborough and loaded to the brim with shops. Mrs Smith happily whiled away the day in retail therapy bliss with me in tow. The Percy Arms in charming Chilworth, just outside Guildford, proved to be a welcome and hearty feeding and watering stop.

Our first visit in over a year and yet Aviator still seems to capture the wow factor. We were warmly welcomed by a range of staff, having visited several times last year. With an amazing selection of films to choose from, delectable food (the breakfast here is second to none) and a free mini bar, we simply indulged and locked ourselves away. Quite frankly this is the perfect place to take refuge, and less than an hour from London. For those of you with a bit more energy than us, Farnham is definitely worth a visit, as is its Art Gallery with its excellent reviews in Time Out.

Another great stay at the Aviator, really can’t fault the hotel. We had a rather lovely lunch at The New Mill restaurant, a short drive away from Farnborough in the village of Eversley. Masterchef-style dining at pub prices made for a pleasant gastronomic surprise. Quick tip: follow the road signs to the restaurant, rather than the Sat Nav, else you’ll end up driving through what’s billed as a ford but is in anyone else’s language a river!

I should have been writing about the Three Sisters in Tallinn but due to the incompetence of a certain budget airline, our flight was cancelled (when we were at the gate, might I add!) and all hopes of a romantic weekend away were slowly slipping away. Three cheers then to Mr & Mrs Smith's wonderful Sabrina who came to the rescue. A couple of phone calls and a mere three-hours later, we were checking into the Aviator. The staff here are brilliant. Local, charming, sweet and utterly professional. We had a few problems with our room but they were dealt with swiftly and graciously. We were booked in for two nights and we didn't leave the hotel once! Just watched movies (excellent selection) ate, drank and lounged. If you plan on doing what we did and not leaving the hotel, I would recommend paying the extra for a Sky Studio. This is the only room grade where you get a bath and the free minibar is a real treat!

We found a superb restaurant called The Crab & Anchor in Southwood, behind Morrison's supermarket, so an unlikely place to find a hidden gem! But the food was absolutely wonderful! Dishes from all around the world and realistic prices too, very scrummy! (It also had wheelchair access with a ramp at the back, and a disabled toilet.)

We stayed at Aviator, and spent a day at Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge, where you can have all sorts of driving experiences: off-road, circuit and skid pan etc. To add to the experience we visited the Brooklands Museum on the same site, which has loads of antique cars, motorbikes, bicycles and aeroplanes, incuding a concorde experience. Generally a brilliant day out and within 15/20 mins from the aviator. Also, not too far away in Godalming is a great restuarant called Bel & The Dragon. It's a converted chapel that does lovely brasserie-style food (quite rustic in a good way), with a wine cellar set in the pipes of the old organ. Guildford is also just a short drive away, and a lovely town for quality shopping.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Aviator hotel. A trip to the local town of Farnham is a wonderful diversion for a leisurely lunch in one of the small courtyard bistros, (we chose Le Club Chocolat in the Lion and Lamb Courtyard) followed by a wander round the numerous independent retailers.
Aviator's restaurant served mouth-wateringly delightful food, with prompt and polite service. We chose to eat at the Swann Inn for our second evening. This lively pub served big portions of beer-battered fish and local pies, but I would advise avoiding the pan-fried duck breast, which was overly tough and cooked in an unpleasant tasting oil.
Locally, we tried the Blackbushe Market on Sunday morning, advertised as one of the largest outdoor markets in Europe. We were expecting a market of local produce, arts and crafts etc, but were met with stall after stall of poor quality tat,
greasy spoon road-side cafe trailers and an unpleasantly crowded atmosphere. Our best advice is to avoid at all cost!

Excellent hotel with great food and wonderful, friendly staff. The welcome cocktails were lovely and the Mr & Mrs Smith deal of champagne and strawberries was just the thing to start off the weekend. My toddler was wearing a Red Arrows flight suit (from Farnborough Air show earlier in the year) and management made a big deal about it, and gave him a little booklet about the Red Arrows as the team slept there during the show. He loved it! We also booked a babysitter one evening, and as the usual lady was unavailable, they called around for someone else that they knew well and who had experience. Our son loved her and it meant we could have dinner without a rush or any guilt! We will most definitely return.

What superlatives can be used when discussing this hotel? I suspect they have all been used so i'll keep it simple. As a proverbial seven year old boy trapped in a forty-eight year old's body, this masculine playpen (which doesn't exclude the ladies I hasten to add) has everything going for it; genius design that references parts of an aircraft, a media centre in our room to die for (tv in the tub anyone?), a 'high roller' mini -bar, Farnborough Airport in the back yard for plane spotting, two local high quality Indian take-aways across the road, an incredible in-house deli and a restaurant with high quality, locally sourced ingredients, crafted by a master-chef. Crown this with impeccable service, care and attention from the staff and you have a near perfect experience. With plans to enlarge their leisure facilities, their knack for catering to their clients borders on telepathic.
Dads I know you should be grateful for your annual bottle of 'Brut' aftershave for Father's Day, but if you can drop the biggest hint to your offspring regard this oasis, it's more than worth the modest prices for booking and if you can, go for the suites.

Talk about a repeat prescription, this hotel should definitely be available as an NHS treatment.
Attentive, friendly staff for whom no favour is too much. Opulent, modern rooms, with more technology than you can shake a remote control at; you can also watch luxury jets fly in and out of Farnborough Airport (make sure you book an Air Room)and check out the hotel's restaurant and for lunch their outstanding deli for top quality cooking. If you don't fancy the hi tech gym, head further afield to work off your big lunch/dinner by checking out the nearby North Downs trail or take a short trip into Farnham with its glut of independent shops. If you're after some culture check out Watt's Gallery in nearby Compton Village. An excellent experience everytime we go.

We stopped at the Aviator over a wet, cold UK Bank Holiday weekend. Our plans of hiring bikes through the countryside curtailed, we set about making a "den" for ourselves in the hotel. Having been upgraded to a sky suite this was fairly easy to do what with the free minibar, free movies, free music playlist and giant bath we spent 3 days literally mooching from room to cocktail bar to restaurant to deli to lounge and back to room...and it was simply superb!
The staff were beyond helpful and genuinely friendly, the food was excellent and we left chilled out, happy and having had a superb Bank Hol weekend. We would definately recommend the Aviator for similar den-like get aways!

This Starck-esque hotel is great to hideaway in and enjoy slow cocktails. The views of Farnborough airport are impressive and the restaurant full of delicious treats. We headed out to Farnham which is a beautiful old town and worth a wonder around. There are all sorts of little restaurants and bars to enjoy although we headed to the more established Loch Fyne (the conservatory has great tables) restaurant. This area is littered with quaint pubs and villages and losing yourself on a lazy drive is the best approach particularly if you follow the river that runs gently through Fleet.

Our wonderful Mr & Mrs Smith hotel put us within an hour's drive of Forest Falconry where I was lucky enough to be treated to full day's flying by my lovely husband. On a wooded ridge at the edge of the New Forest, I met and flew owls, hawks and even a massive golden eagle! The owner regales you throughout with amusing and scary anecdotes of his life with birds, and lunch is at the local country pub. A fantastic day and thoroughly recommended.

My girlfriend and I couldn't fault the hotel. The two-for-one offer through Mr & Mrs Smith meant that we went for an Aviator Plus room. Our only small criticism, and this is a small one, was the restaurant. We ate there both nights of our stay and were a little disappointed that the menu didn't change at all. Having said that, the food on both nights was great. We didn't really explore the area too much due to the weather, but the plush room more than made up for mother nature's worst! Being airport-side was an added bonus – we enjoyed the buzz of watching planes take off and land. In summary, great hotel, great offer, go!

I can honestly say that our weekend at The Aviator was one of the most relaxing and indulgent ever! We booked a suite and literally only left to go for dinner and cocktails on both evenings. We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this as a perfect place to go for a romantic, selfish weekend away!

This is an amazing landmark hotel which you would not expect to see in Farnborough. When I read that it had views of the airport I was slightly alarmed, but flights are tightly controlled and no planes come in after 10pm. The rooms are probably the best I have stayed in in a UK hotel – excellent room and bathroom. It's well worth upgrading to get an air view. The Sky bar is very relaxing and reasonably priced for the rating of the hotel.
