This hotel is perfect for...
• Honeymoons • Romantic breaks • Gourmet getaways • Proper pampering • Peace and quiet • Lazy days
What I liked
Amazingly attentive staff (when required, otherwise ne'er to be seen), luxuriously appointed rooms (the website is fully representative of the beauty of the rooms and facilities), great food options, and a wonderful spa.
What could be better
A wine list in the rooms with the room service menu! Advice: avoid the Uluwatu-to-airport road between 7pm and 8pm to avoid the temple peak-hour trip.

What I liked
Very good value for a hotel. For an affordable rate, we booked a large ocean view suite. I loved that the hotel was right by the sea, with access to a beautiful beach. If you go, make sure and use the hotel's bikes to roam around the area – it's quite an amazing and rural part of Thailand.
What could be better
While the resort location was great and the rooms very spacious, the location made it very difficult to check out restaurants and activities outside of the resort. Taxis in the area were pretty pricey, and it was a little difficult to work with the concierge. Another important note: if you are interested in scuba-diving, the resort is not close to a dive site! You will need to take a taxi for about an hour or an hour and a half in order to get to a dive site. This was not what we expected when we booked the resort.
Local recommendations
There are local cafés near the hotel that you can get to by bike. These local spots serve authentic Thai dishes and regional pancakes made with eggs and bananas.

Alila Villas Uluwatu really is heaven on earth. From the moment two members of staff dressed in immaculate batique uniforms meet you at the airport with cold towels and chilled water, you know you are in for something special. You pull up at the private drive surrounded by lush greenery to possibly the funkiest designed hotel central foyer I have ever seen, to be welcomed personally out of the car by the general manager. Zipping in a golf buggy up to your villa for in-villa check-in, your breath is taken away by the luxe – your very own palace villa (with a scented bath run and ready) with pool, chillout sofas, sunbeds, and every Alila spa product possible (facemasks, scrubs, lip balm – the works). Oh, and the villa ipod already playing the chillout tracks of the holiday. The views over the cliffs down to the sea where the restaurants and sunset cabanas are set around the infinity pool are breathtaking, as is the service, food and cocktails. The Indonesian restaurant has a very reasonable tasting menu option where you can try a bit of everything tasty. Nothing was too much trouble, every member of staff knows you by name. Bliss. Re: nightlife – Dejavu is not quite "Smith". Cocoon is the new smarter place on the Double Six block where you can sip delicious cocktails by the pool to funky DJ music or opt to get comfy on the couches of the minimalist design interior.
