Kooroomba Vineyards Restaurant, Vineyard & Lavender Farm
With six hectares of vineyards, fields of lavender perfuming the air and views of the nearby mountains the surrounds at Kooroomba truly encapsulate the best of the Scenic Rim. Snare a table window side and sample some of the modern Australian fodder from the locally sourced and seasonal menu. Just make sure you leave room to try the signature desert of lavender ice-cream (made fresh from the lavender grown on site) served with a tart berry compote.

Liquid Amber Bistro & Grill
Unsurprisingly cheese and beer both have stand-out roles on the menu at this bistro located at the Mt Tamborine Brewery (which is also home to the award-winning Witches Chase Cheese Company). So loosen your belt buckle and embrace the produce that has made the place famous. Opt for the MT Beer braised beef with carrot butter or the beer pork ribs. Those with a sweet-tooth can sample the passionfruit cheesecake with coconut crumbs while sipping what has been named the World’s best Limoncello.

O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards
O’Reilly’s is an institution in the Scenic Rim and no trip to the region would be complete without a visit to the century-old homestead, built when the family first moved to the area in the 19th century. In the past the property was a guesthouse for hardy travelers willing to brave the two day journey by horse from Brisbane. Thankfully these days a trip to O’Reilly’s is a much more civil affair. High tea and lunch is served on the sweeping verandahs that wrap around the homestead. Or you can opt to pick-up a prepacked gourmet picnic lunch (featuring smoked salmon, duck liver pate and beetroot feta dip) and dine by the creek.

The Royal Hotel, Kalbar
When you’re in the county sometimes all you feel like is some good old-fashioned pub grub, and on this the Royal Hotel delivers. The modern Australian approach here is a hit with the locals and new dishes are always being added to make the most of the local seasonal produce available. The historic pub has been the heart of Kalbar since 1900, but having being lovingly renovated by publicans Tim and Rosie Stanford the steaks and calamari are now served in a dining room as clean and contemporary at the food itself.

Art Café de Kalbur
Locals will tell you that you haven’t tried real waffles until you’ve sampled those made by Martine Van Walsun at the Art Café. Make using a recipe handed down from her grandmother and a waffle press imported from Belgium (that’s the secret to how she gets them so crunchy) these delectable lattice creations are topped with cream and ice-cream, fresh strawberries and maple syrup. Dangerously delicious.

All the cakes and pastries at ArtandSoul are made fresh on premises with a healthy dollop of country-style care.
