Food and drink at The Chedi Club Tanah Gajah

• Hotel restaurant

  Early in the day it's fluffy banana pancakes and hearty home-made muffins, as well as a generous buffet, at the Restaurant at the Chedi Club. Chef Bjorn van Veggel has developed a following beyond hotel guests for his creative European cuisine, but the restaurant is also a reliable spot for first-timers to experiment with Indonesian dishes such as rice-based nasi campur and ayam padang chicken curry. The kitchen team is happy to tone down the spiciness of local dishes for delicate palates.

• Dress code No need to dress up, although swimsuits and bare feet are a bit too exposed for this refined globetrotting crowd. Evenings call for tropical chic. The air can get chilly, so wrap up in a colourful pashmina.
• Top table The best tables are along the open-air dining room’s perimeter, overlooking paddy fields and Bali’s sacred mountains.
• Last orders 10.30pm.
• Room service At any time, guests can order from a room service menu of global offerings.
• Hotel bar

  Sunsets see guests congregrating at the restaurant, which doubles as the house bar, for signature cocktails such as the Chedi Purple Basil. There's also a selection of imported cigars at the Bird Lounge, an idyllic outpost adjacent to the Tanah Gajah Aviary.
