St Regis Washington DC
Style Old-world wow
Setting Right by the White House
Abounding with vintage glamour and old-world grandeur, the St Regis Washington DC sits a skip away from the White House and the attractions of the US capital. Built in 1926, but brought bang up to date with a multi-million dollar refurb, a Claridge’s-inspired lobby makeover and the addition of an Alain Ducasse restaurant, this boutique hotel exudes class from every keyhole.

Get all your five dailies in one fell swoop by ordering the Cookpot: a dish designed by Ducasse to champion fresh vegetables cooked in a traditional style.
- Dress code Sharp Savile Row suits for him, high-glam haute couture for her.
- Top table Snaffle a window seat and watch Washingtonian life walk by, or, if there’s a few of you, ask for the semi-private dining room at the back of the restaurant.
- Last orders Dinner’s served until 10pm during the week, 10.30pm on Friday and Saturday, and not at all on Sunday and Monday. Lunch is available Monday to Friday until 2pm.
- Room service Private dining can be arranged around the clock.
- Hotel bar A clubby wood-pannelled corner of Ardour, St Regis’ bar is the kind of place you can imagine sharp-suited politicos exchanging briefcases full of cash. The hotel’s famous Bloody Marys are poured until well past midnight.

Our favourite rooms
Quite why the man in question would need one when he lives barely a block away is unclear, but the Presidential Suite, which is the size of a house and swaddled in luxury, is certainly worthy of the name. If you don’t have $10,000 to fling around, we’d suggest opting for one of the eight sienna-hued Metropolitan Suites – spacious, luxurious, and ideal for families as they adjoin the Superior Double rooms.
Packing tips
Bring all your favourite political-thriller DVDs – All the Presidents Men. The West Wing, etc – you're practically staying on the set.
