Peering proud above idyllic olive groves is Homanie Toulon, a five-bedroom villa set on La Seyne-sur-Mer’s Med-facing cliffside with vaunted sea views. This exclusive hideaway’s original Eastern-inflected architecture has been given a healthy dose of charming French flair too, in its wraparound Renaissance terrace and parquet polishes, each of the three floors offers sweeping sea views (many from bed) and couth coastal interiors. Though the abstract artwork hung throughout certainly makes for good apéritif talking-points, the real sight is outside, where Toulon’s peachy sunsets draw days of yoga sessions on the deck, reef dives, cliff climbs and alfresco massages to a calming close.

First Glance

  • This six-bedroom villa sits along Toulon’s craggy coastline, in a palatial white three-floor building studded with teal Grecian-style shutters and a wraparound terrace.
  • Inside, modern minimalist design contrasts with the traditional exterior and abstract artwork adds colourful accents throughout.
  • On the entrance floor, a large living room with canary-yellow sofas, a library and a working fireplace overlooks the grounds and offers direct access to the furnished terrace.
  • A few steps away, there’s a dining room with a 12-seater dining table and access to an open-plan kitchen decked out with all cooking necessities.
  • Head up the villa’s central spiral staircase to find the first floor’s three bedrooms. Parquet flooring gives each room a château feel and the master bedroom’s cerulean accent wall brings in coastal touches.
  • All three bedrooms have their own ensuite bathroom, each with a walk-in shower, and the master bedroom also has a freestanding bath tub in the centre of the room, as well as a private sea-facing terrace.
  • On the basement level, there’s stone flooring, shared living spaces, two bedrooms and a professional kitchen for a private chef (on request and at a charge) to prep and cook a special supper.
  • There’s a cinema room – that doubles up as a small event space – with a projector, Bose sound system and sofas; a smaller living room with Romanesque arched windows and space for a single or double bed for up to two extra guests; plus a games room with a pool table, darts and table football.
  • The downstairs bedrooms both have direct access to the garden and their own ensuite bathrooms (one with a walk-in shower and the other with a bath tub).
  • Outside, the wraparound terrace connects to the garden, where you’ll find a sea-facing infinity pool and alfresco dining spaces.

  • A few steps below, the main garden has a sea-facing pool, pétanque court and plenty of spaces to bask in Toulon’s afternoon sun.
  • Below the pool, there’s a second terrace with two sunloungers. You can also access the rocky beach below via a step-ladder, although it’s not the easiest of arrivals.
  • There are plenty of sandy beaches around, including Sablettes Beach (a 20-minute walk or five-minute drive away) and Plage de la Verne (10-minute walk).
  • There’s also a driveway with space for five cars.

Location

  • If you’re arriving by train, arrive into La Seyne-sur-mer (15-minute drive) or Toulon (20-minute drive). A private car can collect you from either station for €50 each way.
  • Homanie Toulon can organise a large array of activities (on request, at an additional charge) during your stay. There’s an expert on call for pretty much everything you could hope to do here, including yoga lessons, plant-based cooking lessons, hikes, free- and reef-diving, golf lessons, cross-country skiing, and poolside massages.
  • For local restaurants, head into Les Sablettes for refined French fare and sweeping sea views at Horizon Sablettes, or venture to Chez Daniel et Julia for Fabreguas’s fresh seafood paired light white wines.
